Description
This Korean moktak drum is a lovely piece of craftsmanship, carved from beautiful apricot wood. It comes with a wooden striker. The sound of this instrument is crisp and excellent. Unlike the typical Japanese moktak, this moktak is made to be hand-held, and comes with a generous hand grip.
Moktaks are known as a Fish Drums, for they are roughly in the shape of a fish. It is customarily used to keep time for chanting and reminds practitioners to be wakeful during their recitation. A fish never sleeps! Our Moktak is made by a craftswoman in Korea. The attractive stamp is the Chinese character for “Sky.”
You can find more on the background and use of the moktak here.

Moktak
it’s a wonderful instrument and designed with care.
Absolutely fantastic. It’s our new door knocker. Works like a champ. Thank you so much for this lovely work of the heart.
A stunningly beautiful object with a clear, bright, full sound. I couldn’t be happier with it!
Also very nice sound. I can’t imagine how they managed to hollow out the carving. It is whole, not two halves joined, unless the seam is completely invisible. Thank you.
