Description
We have a particular fondness for our rustic Wabi-Sabi Jizos, handmade by Wabi-Sabi Studios on Vashon Island. Inspired by the Japanese philosophy of wabi-sabi, which celebrates the imperfect, the transient, and the natural, each Jizo has its own unique character with a slightly rough texture that adds to its charm. Stained in earthy green and brown tones, this Jizo blends harmoniously with nature, making it a perfect companion for both indoor altars and outdoor gardens.
Weather-resistant and sturdy, the Wabi-Sabi Jizo is comfortable in any environment, enduring all weather conditions while radiating a quiet sense of peace and protection. Whether placed by your front door or in a peaceful corner of your home, this handcrafted statue serves as a gentle reminder of the compassion of Jizo Bodhisattva.
Jizo, known as Ojizo-sama in Japan, is a beloved bodhisattva in Mahayana Buddhism, known as a protector of the vulnerable, especially children, travelers, and the souls of the deceased. In Sanskrit his name is Ksitigarbha, meaning “Earth Womb,” symbolizing his vow to help and protect all beings.
