Our Everyday Samue Jacket is a stylish jacket that will last a lifetime. Samue (or Samu-e or Samu-gi) is traditionally the work jacket for a Buddhist monk or nun in Japan. And it looks great on anyone. Wear it to the meditation hall, the dojo, around town or working in the garden.
We tailor these black jackets from comfortable 6.5 oz tight-weaved cotton twill. The samue closes with ties and you’ll find it has a zippered outside pocket and a hidden inside pocket. Our samue is pre-shrunk, so it’s machine washable, with maximum shrinkage 3-5%. And like all of our clothing, it’s made right here in Seattle.

Similar to the pants, this jacket is well designed, clearly of high quality/durability, and looks great. I am happy with this product and will certainly order more samue from here over the years.
Sizing is tricky! I am 6’0 with a medium build and wear size M almost always (maybe L if aiming for a loose fit). So I was surprised that I had to return my M samue for a S, which fits perfectly. Sleeve length is not an issue since these jackets are not designed with full length sleeves.
I emailed for help with sizing and found it not particularly helpful, nor were the vague size guidelines on the website. My suggestion is for a more comprehensive sizing chart for all the clothing with things like inseam, chest, waist min/max etc.
The lightweight samue jacket is expertly sewn of good quality cotton fabric. I recommend it if you are looking for a top for work or sitting.
