The zafu meditation cushion is the most basic and necessary of meditation tools. It allows you to sit up straight and relaxed. To do so, sit on the front half of your zafu and your cushion will help tilt your pelvis forward, allowing your torso, spine, and pelvis to align naturally.
Our dark brown round zafu is made from a durable cotton shell that we stuff with buckwheat hulls. The buckwheat fill molds to your form, yet gives you firm support. The zafu have a zippered closure to allow you to adjust the buckwheat fill and comes with a handy carrying handle.
Zafu translates from Japanese as “sewn seat.” However, the translation could also literally mean cushion made from the reedmace plant, also known as a cattail. Originating in China, the zafu eventually migrated to Japan, as did Buddhism. In Japan, the history and cultural significance of the zafu have become deeply intertwined with Zen Buddhism.
All zafus are made to order on Vashon Island in Washington State.
